Αrtist statement
My artistic practice explores the transformation of everyday experiences and landscapes into digital environments, and their subsequent materialization through sculpture and 3D printing.
Rooted in a deep personal connection to my homeland, I draw from an evolving digital archive to document and reinterpret the Cycladic and Aegean landscapes not only as a gesture of preservation, but as a way to create new, tangible traces of places on the verge of disappearance.
Using tools like photogrammetry and my mobile phone, I gather fragments of space, light, and time spontaneous impressions of environments I cannot physically touch. These recordings, shaped by the imperfections and limits of digital translation, result in sculptural forms that carry the imprint of their digital ancestry: traces of presence, memory, and passage.
These works function as imprints of place, evoking fragmented landscapes urban or rural that hover between the real and the imagined. They invite the viewer into a space where the digital and physical converge, and where absence, nostalgia, and transformation become tangible.
CV
Vangelis Savvas (b. 1990, Naxos) is a visual artist based in Athens. He studied at the Department of Fine Arts and Sciences of Art at the University of Ioannina (2010–2016) and holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Athens School of Fine Arts. He is a co-founder of NOTUS studio, which operated as an independent art space and nonprofit artist residency program in Kallithea, Athens (2017–2020). He is also a co-founder of Deliverart, a collective project and mobile experience based in the center of Athens (2019).
